AKERMAN AND MOSTYN TO RETURN TO TWO WAY?

Residents waiting for Akerman and Mostyn to return to two way traffic continue to be frustrated by shifting timelines.  Particularly frustrating given the more limited access to the park caused by the road closures.  Here’s the latest:

There has been a delay since I originally raised the issue with Planning.  The case has now been allocated a planning officer who will decide the best way forward to implement these changes.  There two directions this can go; a full public consultation (12 weeks) or issuing a Variation of the planning condition relating to Akerman/Mostyn roads (2 weeks).  They are more inclined to go for a full public consultation.  I am more inclined to go for the Variation with a view to make further changes to increase parking in the area while going through an informal consultation with councillors and local community representatives.  Please rest assured this is a priority and I will update you as soon as I can.

We’re not entirely sure what this means but there are clearly more delays.  Note that when / if these roads return to two way they will have to introduce more parking restrictions to allow for two-way traffic, again increasing parking stress.

Also note that Mostyn Road will be closed for water main works from 22nd October.  They have permission for it to be closed for 4 weeks, although they think it likely it will only take 2 days.  Expect a significant increase in traffic at the Loughborough Road / Brixton Road junction as we lose another access point to the park.

  1. Hi Ellen – hope this finds you well. A couple of residents responding to my note on the Calais St closure thought that having Akerman back as a 2 way would be helpful for local road users. Did you have any further information on that, following your note below?

    Best,

    Jamie
